Italian Cypress in the Countryside of Tuscany, Italy |
In Genesis, we learnt, intriguingly, that God made trees not first because of any utilitarian value, but simply because God likes trees. True, they are ‘’good for food’’ but before that they are ‘’pleasant to the sight’’(Gen 2:9). Those who trust in the Lord are ‘’like a green olive tree’’ in God’s house (Psalm 52:8) and the beauty and wonder of trees makes them surprisingly erotic images in Song of Songs (2:3, 7:7-8)
Trees are sufficiently majestic attractive that God can say ‘’ I am like an evergreen cypress’’ (Hosea 14:8). The Bible Poetry of trees will allow Jesus to speak of the kingdom as a great tree that grows from a tiny seed (Mark 4:16-34)
Happily, in my opinion, I see God as the Topmost Tree, The Vine, The Great Cypress and believers as his branches. In Ezekiel 17:22-24, we find a ray of hope: top shoot of the tree, planted by God on high & lofty mountains, destined to be a place of rest and shade for ‘’every kind of bird’’. Now, all trees of the field will know that he is the lord. I realize the great reversals of this text (bringing low the high, making high low) freeing God’s people from the hands of oppressors.
God can do all things, I declare:
- You shall be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, for your leaves shall remain green. In all that you do, you shall prosper (Psalm 1:3)

4. You shall flourish like a palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon (Psalm 92:12)
5. You shall stay fresh, green and still bear fruit in old age (Psalm 92:14)
6. You shall live long because the Bible tells us ‘’For as the days of a tree so will be the days of my people, my chosen one will enjoy the work of their hands and will not labor in vain (Isaiah 65:22b-23).

Did you know when trees fall on trees, the topmost tree must first be removed before others? Your next question is Why? Because it is useful and can reproduce another tree
7. You shall be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth (Gen 1:28)
The bible tells us in Job 14:7 (NLT) that “Even a tree has more hope! If it is cut down, it will sprout again and grow new branches. You are more than a tree, no matter how hopeless your situation appears to be, if you put your hope in Jesus, he will surely turn that situation around for good in a way that is beyond human understanding. You shall multiply.

ReplyDeleteChapter nine of Wrong but Right?

They use to have it in form of an outing most weekends when the children were growing up and they still had from time to time in recent years. Continue here:
