I received a mail today from Malia (USA). She likes the Q & A section of the blog, it has really helped her. Malia's father gambles which she doesn't like. Malia's elder brother starts gambling recently, she told him gambling is bad but his brother said it is not a sin.
I think the Bible does not specifically condemn gambling. The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). Scripture also encourages us to stay away from attempts to “get rich quick” (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Gambling most definitely is focused on the love of money and undeniably tempts people with the promise of quick and easy riches.
What do you think? Is Gambling A Sin?
I think so yes, the time spent gambling could be spent doing much better things.

ReplyDeleteI reckon the effects of gambling also need to be looked into...the fact that one can be addicted as well as the use of resources which could have been used in other positive ways.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that gambling is a sin but I think it can be done in a sinful way. The biggest sin is to take advantage of gambling addicts and unfortunately that happens very often in the gambling business.

I wouldn't say a sin much more like a socially accepted drug, like alcohol.
ReplyDeleteMy brother works at casino and says that he would never gamble. You should think about it. I personally think that gambling is for people who need something in their life, something more. I don't have that problem. Many people should be focused on today and not on the weekends as they should on the things and persons they have. Gambling is a fine way that helps you to win or lose. Are you so desperate to win or you don't have nothing to lose?

I don't think it's a sin, because I don't believe in 'sins'. I do think it's addictive and people who gamble should be careful. Personally I don't do it, too many risks involved.
